Customization
Gears of War E-Day customization — earn characters, weapon skins, poses and banners with Coins and Iron in the no-battle-pass cosmetics system.
Introduction
The Customization hub covers E-Day's old-school cosmetics system — and it is a deliberate throwback. There is no battle pass, no tour of duty and no gimmicks: nearly everything is earnable by playing the game. The two-currency economy sits at the center: Coins are earned through gameplay, while Iron is the premium currency used in the Barracks and the weekly shop. You can unlock and equip characters, weapon skins, poses, banners, emblems, icons and titles, with 60+ characters available at launch including every major campaign skin day one. This guide breaks down how Coins and Iron work, the fastest ways to earn them, the full customization catalog and the no-battle-pass philosophy that defines E-Day's economy.

Core Mechanics
The customization system is built around two currencies. Coins are the free currency earned through gameplay — kills, matches, challenges and objectives all feed your Coin income. Iron is the premium currency, used primarily in the Barracks and the weekly shop for items that rotate in and out. Cosmetic categories include characters, full weapon skin sets (one unlock applies to every customizable weapon), poses, banners, emblems, icons and titles. Player Level runs to 100 with Re-Up resets that grant prestige and new cosmetics, and 80+ Gears 3-inspired medals at launch track your achievements across every mode. Your Player Level runs to 100, and Re-Up resets that level with new prestige cosmetics, giving dedicated players a long-term reason to keep playing. The 80+ Gears 3-inspired medals track achievements across every mode, feeding emblems and titles. Between daily and weekly challenges, the Barracks, and the weekly shop rotation, there is always a goal to work toward — whether you are a completionist chasing every medal or a cosmetic collector hunting a specific skin.
Advantages
The no-battle-pass model is a huge win for players. Everything cosmetic is earnable by playing, so your time invested in matches directly translates into unlocks. One weapon skin applies to every customizable weapon, so skin purchases go further. The Re-Up system gives long-term progression for dedicated players, and the daily and weekly challenges keep the Coin income flowing. There are no time-gated FOMO mechanics beyond the weekly shop rotation, which is generous by modern live-service standards. The no-battle-pass model is a genuine win: everything cosmetic is earnable through play, so time spent in matches directly becomes unlocks. One weapon skin applies to every customizable weapon, stretching your purchases further, and the challenge system gives daily reasons to log in. The economy is also legible — you always know what earns Coins and what requires Iron, with no opaque seasonal currencies to juggle.
Challenges
The two-currency system still splits the economy — the best-looking items in the weekly shop often cost Iron, which is the premium currency. Players who want every cosmetic quickly will either grind a lot of Coins or spend real money on Iron. Some seasonal packs and Premium Edition rewards are gated behind the paid tier. Challenge-based unlocks can be grindy for specific items, and the weekly shop rotation means missing a rotation can mean waiting weeks for a favorite item to return. The premium side of the economy still favors spending: the most desirable weekly-shop items usually cost Iron, which is the premium currency. Players who want every cosmetic quickly will either grind a lot of Coins or pay for Iron. Some items are time-limited to the shop rotation, so missing a rotation can mean waiting weeks for a favorite skin to return, and a handful of seasonal and Premium Edition items are gated behind the paid tier.

Quick Tips
Do your daily and weekly challenges first — they are the fastest, most reliable Coin income and usually line up with matches you would play anyway. They usually line up with the matches you would anyway play, so you get steady Coin income with zero extra effort. Daily and weekly challenges are the most efficient Coin income in the game, and they usually match the matches you already play.
Spend Iron on the weekly shop only for items you genuinely want; the rotation means patience often lets you earn similar items with Coins. Patience is rewarded — most weekly-shop items eventually appear again or get a Coin-based alternative. If an item is in the weekly shop now and you do not love it, it will almost certainly rotate back or find a Coin alternative later.
One weapon skin covers every customizable weapon — buy full sets rather than single-weapon cosmetics to get the most value per unlock. Full sets cover every customizable weapon, which stretches your unlocks much further than single-weapon cosmetics. A full weapon set covers every customizable gun, so one purchase stretches much further than a single-weapon cosmetic ever could.
